Edun: Behind the Scenes

edun2

Irish designer Sharon Wauchob was named creative director of Edun in January 2010. A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Wauchob was a ready-to-wear and accessories designer for Louis Vuitton from 1997-2001 and launched her eponymous label in Paris in 1999.

For Edun's Spring/Summer 2012 collection, Wauchob juxtaposes iconic English floral and African prints, bringing together two contrasting worlds in signature Edun style. Special features include Kenyan dresses with a diamond block print superimposed with English flora and a series of Yoruba print silk pieces made in Africa.

The collection also features a series of distinctive African pieces that use natural indigo-dyeing techniques from Mali. Malian and French calligrapher, textile designer and artist Aboubakar Fofana specialises in the dyeing techniques of West Africa. He uses natural indigo dyes and minerals to create beautiful and unique textile designs. By preserving the indigo plants of West Africa, Fofana keeps the traditional Malian practice alive.
