Over the past decade, stylist Gillian Steinhardt has collaborated with many of the biggest names in the music, fashion and advertising industries. She has worked with artists such as David Bowie, No Doubt, Misfits, Rufus Wainwright and Jennifer Nettles, and she has created looks for clients such as American Express, BMW and Dove.

Steinhardt studied fashion design at Parsons The New School of Design, before graduating from Concordia University in Montreal, with a degree in art history with a special interest in fibre arts. She opened up the trendsetting vintage boutique Capsule, in her native Toronto, from 1997-2000, and worked in LA for a few years, before returning to New York, where she is now based.

Steinhardt brings this wealth of experience and her finely honed fashion sensibilities to her new eponymous jewellery line. Her designs are not only dynamic and sophisticated, but also highly wearable. Handcrafted in New York, Steinhardt’s jewellery is made from a unique blend of coloured brass, sterling silver, leather, rope, hand-carved stones from Istanbul and fire opals from Mexico. Steinhardt creates beautiful compositions inspired by the geometric motifs of ancient Egyptian, Roman and Aztec cultures, blending them with the glamour of the Art Deco era and Seventies fashion. She pays particular attention to the weight and volume of each piece, to create a specific feel and sense of presence on the wearer’s body. As a result of both the historical references and the design elements at work, Steinhardt’s jewellery gives a feeling of grounding and confidence.
