Jeff Rudes co-founded J Brand in 2004, his prior experience in the fashion industry of over 30 years provided him with extensive knowledge of the market, and enabled him to assume the role and responsibilities of CEO relatively easily. In the late 1970s, Rudes established his first jeans brand Paris 2000, which effectively initiated the French jeans boom in America at that time.
The founding vision of J Brand aimed to create jeans with a fit so perfect that the jean would essentially follow the silhouette of one’s body. In the spring of 2005, Rudes launched an exclusive J Brand line at Ron Herman’s Melrose jeans bar, and it took off almost immediately becoming a hit amongst consumers of noteworthy celebrities and prominent editors. J Brand drove the trend of dark washed skinny jeans with its introduction of this product design during their initial stages as a company.
