3.1 Phillip Lim's
eponymous brand debuted in the fall of 2005, bucking the ostentatious runway trends of the time. Lim’s youthfully elegant wardrobe classics with a twist were an instant sensation, adored by critics, fashion editors and customers alike.
Widespread recognition of Thailand-born Lim’s talent and accolades quickly followed, and after only five years, Phillip Lim finds himself at the helm of a pioneering contemporary luxury brand as one of the most talented and successful young designers today.
Berlin’s transitional landscape and party lifestyle inspired Lim for Pre-Fall 14. The designer had his 40th birthday party there and explored the extreme theme to rejuvenate his signature sports-luxe aesthetic, and to emphasis the intermediate nature of the Pre-Fall season chicly and literally.
There is effortless fluidity to the tailored separates and dresses, with some asymmetric details, and colour veered between the bold and the monochrome. The cracked surface of the standout molten gold sweatshirt is an experimental twist that elevates the general minimalism, with a cute poodle print adding further contrast. Lim’s ‘It’ bags - the Pashli and the Ryder - were remixed in darker tones and fur and jolts of colour, and he went largely back to black, and oxblood, with his timelessly modern shoe collection.
