ISA ARFEN

THE STORY

Isa Arfen is a fashion label with an extraordinary background in style. Designer and founder Serafina Sama graduated from Central Saint Martins School of Art & Design in 2006 and soon after went on to work for renowned designers including Marni, Marc Jacobs and Chloé, alongside various freelance projects for fashion brands such as Charlotte Olympia and Louis Vuitton. This dedication to the industry prompted Sama to design a small collection of summer dresses inspired by the retro glamour of Slim Aarons’ society photographs, which gained an enthusiastic following amongst style insiders. Her eclectic sensibility draws upon Italian style, something she was surrounded as by a young girl, combined with a modern, eclectic attitude that still shines through her aristocratic womenswear.

THIS SEASON

A body paint print was splashed across Isa Arfen’s SS17 collection, influenced by the Omo Valley tribes of Ethiopia and 1960s portraits of Malian women. Taking place in the Old Truman Brewery in London’s edgy East End, the clothing also reflected its stylish backdrop, featuring a mash-up of stiff yet lightweight fabrics, recurring ruffles on off the shoulder silhouettes and tonal, earthy colours. High waisted trousers and belted jackets almost gave the collection a sharpened edge to the vibrant dresses you would expect to see in the balmy heat of Rio De Janeiro or Africa.
