ISABEL MARANT ÉTOILE

THE STORY

The younger sister line of fashion brand Isabel Marant, Isabel Marant Étoile captures a free-spirited Parisian ambience with designer clothes and accessories ready to take on any time of day. Launching as a diffusion line in 1999 after the debut of Marant’s first ready-to-wear collection four years earlier in the squat of her courtyard, the niche label started out with simple jerseys and knitwear, but has gone on to receive global praise for effortless designs to suit the ‘bohemian urbanite’. With A-list fans such as Chloe Sevigny, Vanessa Paradis and Kirsten Dunst backing the brand, it’s no wonder the designer has been established as a style favourite for beautifully made feminine blouses and dresses, chunky knits and relaxed tailoring.

THIS SEASON

It’s true to say Isabel Marant’s clothing makes a girl feel good – this season the Isabel Marant Étoile collection didn’t fall too far from the tree, refreshing the youthful girlish charm of her separates with a definitive grown-up twist. Stripes and florals were contrasted, hemlines were much more daring and denim took on a masculine persona for SS17. The combo of sporty, utilitarian and bohemian influences was prevalent in this case for everyday dressing.

22 boutiques later and with the designer’s historic location still situated on the same rue de Charonne in the Bastille district, it’s clear to see everything and nothing has changed. Isabel Marant’s vision still remains the same, reflecting the rebellious personality she has always demonstrated, but in the process encouraging the use of traditional handcraftsmanship which she refers to as ‘the ecology of clothing’. Her pieces are designed to be trans-seasonal, thus slotting seamlessly into the modern woman’s wardrobe to be worn for many more years to come.
