LEM LEM

THE STORY

Women are at the heart of ethical fashion brand Lem Lem, proudly supporting its sister non-profit organisation, The Liya Kebede foundation and its work whilst addressing the health concern of women in Africa. The supermodel, actress and designer Liya Kebede founded the brand in 2007 after a native trip to Ethiopia, where she met a group of local weavers and wanted to preserve their unique art form. This small exchange allowed Lem Lem to progress as a brand, first through celebrating the handcraftsmanship and traditional technique that lies at the heart of communities in Kenya and Ethiopia, to the outcome - natural cotton separates splayed with delicate crochet, embroidery and hand woven details. Bringing this authentic skill to light also funds an expansion for job opportunities across the continent, making Lem Lem a committed and caring fashion brand with an array of beautifully made womens clothing at its heart.

THIS SEASON

Wardrobes will be looking a lot more colourful this season if Lem Lem is anything to go by. The designer Liya Kebede’s usual off-duty vacation-ready flair is now developing into a full ready-to-wear operation with her colourful kaftans and dresses being shaped into wardrobe pieces you’ve got just as much chance of wearing 9 to 5 as well as on holiday. Mens shirting was given the designer’s authentic twist, whilst jumpsuits and off the shoulder tops would work in your favour with much loved denim pieces to wear around the city. Colours were a lot fresher in sorbet yellow, sky blue and marigold contrasted with African-inspired prints as seen on a wax-printed gown. Other prints included Kebede’s signature stripe, this time given a bolder direction on peplum hems, ruffles and displayed vertically down a kaftan and playsuit we want to pack with us on our next voyage.
