It’s heating up so we’ve inevitably got holidays on the horizon and swimwear on the brain. And speaking of swimwear, it’s clear that one woman’s dream is another women’s nightmare. A swimsuit can offer just as much coverage or skin exposure as a bikini these days so modesty is no longer the distinguishing factor. Both are on trend so before you dive in, we’re going to share the golden rule: fit. Here are the merits of both shapes.
On a purely practical level, the one-piece is king. If you’re dying to make a splash, literally and sartorially, it’s the one and done solution- the jumpsuit of swimwear if you will. Chic and classic, you’ll leave more to the imagination unless you go down the Baywatch route. The cross-generational appeal is strong and there’s lots of surface space to experiment with colour and details. They’ll also double as streamlining bodies away from water.
Bikinis are immediately more intimidating but they’re the best way to achieve your perfect fit. No need to worry about where waist-line sits because you can get the right size and cut on top and bottom like you would with separates. Mixing and matching is another body-flattering trick as you can accentuate your favourite features using design and embellishments. They don’t have to be itsy-bitsy either now that wider tops and high rise bottoms are widely available.
