ULLA JOHNSON

THE STORY

Native New Yorker and lifelong traveller Ulla Johnson creates ready-to-wear clothing and accessories for the faithful bohemian woman. Having discovered remote locales across the globe as a child alongside her archaeological parents, she became surrounded by exotic influences and an eye for style from a young age. Tapping into soft silhouetting, custom made floral prints and traditional hand craftsmanship makes each of her summery wardrobe pieces truly authentic, from relaxed midi and maxi dresses to jumpsuits and blouses perfect for home and away.

THIS SEASON

The Manhattanite’s trademark bohemian aesthetic resulted in crochet sweaters, romantic satin dresses and a splay of earthy hues for SS17. An installation of wallflowers and grasses set the scene for the presentation, with the designer capturing the spirit of South America after a work trip to discover more about the country’s unique craftsmanship. Gaucho vibes in particular were a must and a push in the right direction allowed Ulla Johnson’s collection to veer slightly away from her usual aesthetic and venture into harder fabrics and more shaped silhouettes; think a structured khaki ruffle dress or the faded denim pinafore jumpsuit for your new-season staples.
