PREEN BY THORNTON BREGAZZI

THE STORY

Designer duo Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi of Preen by Thornton Bregazzi first began their fashion career selling their clothes in a tiny shop in the hub of London’s Portobello Road. During the hype of the grunge era in 1996, the pair decided to create their eponymous designer label and translated their love for the androgynous style cult into a debut collection for Spring/Summer 2001, raved about in reviews as a ‘sartorial traditional clash’. Sharing a joint love for all things Victoriana, recycling and androgynous style, the couple have become renowned for their British tongue-in-cheek sensibility, deconstructing dresses, tops, trousers and skirts with opulent fabrics and prints for a punk twist.

THIS SEASON

The underlying theme behind Preen By Thornton Bregazzi’s SS17 collection related to the designers’ surroundings of pagans and witches on the Isle of Man, referencing a range of mixed media influences such as The Wicker Man, Skinhead by Nick Knight and The Book of Pagan Rituals. Dwelling upon the breakdown of society since Brexit, the British label reworked into black jeans, skinhead polo shirts and drifty silhouettes, accessorised with Camden platforms. A neo-mystic aesthetic was played upon with dresses in floral prints, silver glitter and pentagrams that spellbound the audience, all finished with a dusting of iridescent embroidery.
